In the First Epistle of Peter (1 Peter), Peter speaks to us today with the experience and wisdom of an older man and the authority of Christ’s chosen apostles. This epistle is not meant to be a doctrinal treatise but serves as a letter of encouragement to Christians as “aliens and strangers” in a godless world. The overall message concerns the believer’s submission to God as it relates to his submission to various people and authorities. This teaching is timeless, practical, and much needed.
The Second Epistle of Peter (2 Peter) serves a different purpose. Peter’s first epistle is written to Christians regarding their struggle to remain faithful in the world; his second is written about the ungodly world itself and what believers must do to respond to this. The information it provides about the nature of false teachers and false teaching is more detailed than anywhere else in the New Testament.
The Quick Study Commentary: 1 & 2 Peter offers a reasonable and practical commentary on both of Peter’s epistles. The reading is clear, forthright, and makes every attempt to expound upon each passage without losing sight of the big-picture overview of the epistle’s message. It is designed for those who wish to engage in a serious Bible study.
